It was so much fun to see the look of surprise and excitement on my students' faces (K - 5th) when they discovered all of the creatures living under pieces of dead wood. They especially loved the millipedes and bess beetles. After 9 months, my habitat still contains living millipedes, bess beetles, and darkling beetles. In fact, I am happy to say that I have a new millipede addition to my habitat (I started with 2 millipedes and now have 3)! What a motivating and educational product.

Pros: Engaging, very complete kit

I have had an eye on this product for years and finally purchased it a week ago. It arrived today and I was pleasantly surprised by the number of creatures that were included (two nicely sized millipedes, two bess bugs, a bunch of pill bugs and adult mealworks, as well as cricket nymphs). The package included much more moss than is shown in the picture, and there were several varieties, all healthy and colorful. There was also far more rotting log bits than needed, I commend Carolina Biological on always ensuring their customers get more than enough of what they order! The container is now positively teeming with life, creatures interacting with one another, slipping in and out of the soil, wood, and moss. Highly recommended and a good value!
