Big DNA Yields BIG Results! Date: April 22, 2009
Pros: Effective, Engaging, Grade Level Appropriate

Unlike smaller DNA model kits, this large DNA molecule is easy to use. The tubes for the hydrogen bonds are more realistic than other models, too. I have my students work in pairs to create a segment of DNA, but the best part is when all the groups put their segments together and we can easily simulate DNA replication. Discussions of leading and lagging strands, Okazaki fragments, and simultaneous replication in many places along the DNA molecule makes this model a great teaching tool. In Addition to replication, your students can create mutations and see the results quite easily. I highly recommend this kit.
