Pros: Effective, Engaging
Cons: Takes Too Much Time
Very effective learning tool, but it does take a bit of prep time on the instructor's part. Practice using the materials several times in advance and it'll be fine. I recommend purchasing the power supply pack over using 9V batteries, and using a centrifuge to prepare DNA samples before each use. It helps to prep most of it in advance and just have the students load the DNA. I consistently receive positive feedback from the students after they've completed this activity. It's one of their favorite labs!
